Relocating to Uckfield - E. Sussex

Options
I am seriously thinking of moving out of London with my family to Uckfield...

It seems a fairly nice area, some very nice homes in our price range - local amenities and schools seem fine and it is relatively close for my work at Crawley.

But are there any pro's and con's? I'd appreciate any feedback please

I can't comment on Uckfield itself but if you have a family, you'll probably not look back once you move out of London.

I've never met anyone that has moved out of London and regretted it. London's perfect when you're without children and can take advantage of the culture and nightlife but once you have children you can't do it so much and then it's a fight to get them into the right school and crawl through the traffic after work to see them before bed.

If you work near Uckfield then I can't see any problems at all except if you move away from family that can babysit for you! Your commuting time and petrol bills are cut drastically, you have more time with your family, you get a bigger house for your money, cleaner air, open space, far easier access to the countryside and the sea.

London's fabulous to visit and I know I've spent more time visiting all the tourist attractions and wandering up and down Bond Street ;) than I did when I lived there.

    Go for it :D.

Hiya Doozer... thanks for the comments.... just what I was thinking!! :)

There is a flipside... obviously there is the initial cost and we are moving away from family but they are mostly scattered about London and the South East anyway.
We'll be trading up...and consequently takling on a much higher mortgage but we feel timing of this is crucial.... with kids aged 5 and 7 if we leave it any longer it will severely disrupt them I think and we'll probably be stuck in London for many years to come.

I used to go out with a guy that lived there (sigh).

On the whole from what I can remember it was a really nice village with some nice houses and a park in the middle and some nice quiet pubs. I do remember the transport system not being very good though. But it might have improved since then.

In the most part it's a lovely area - my old next door neighbour moved there, and a client of mine also lives there and loves it.

Best of luck with the move if you go ahead with it.
