No fee cash withdrawl on debit cards abroad?

also it is getting very hard out there to find a cash machine that doesn't charge about £30 per withdrawl of any amount, there are a couple..
Suely that's a typo? Thirty pounds?????
Please say it is - but what for??
And remember cards other than Nationwide charge 2.75%, not 0.84%, and some charge a fee on top as well.
And getting Thai cash here to take typically costs 5%. Yes you can get it for less - but have to hunt around.
If you've stopped using your Nationwide card because of an 0.84% charge you really are cutting off your nose to spite your face.0 -
Nationwide started charging the 0.85% Visa fee earlier this year (prior to that they simply absorbed the fee). Visa increased this fee to 1% this month, and Nationwide now pass on this 1% fee.
I think the Nationwide Debit Card is still the cheapest way to get foreign cash - in any country worldwide. But, for spending outside the "Europe" zone, the Santander Zero and Post Office Office Credit cards beat the Nationwide debit card as they absorb the 1% Visa fee.
Of course, never use any credit card for cash withdrawals as you will be saddled with an interest charge immediately and, most likely, a cash withdrawal fee by the card issuer as well.
Nationwide never charge a fee on their debit card for cash withdrawal but the ATM owner may do so. To avoid this, it is probably better to use a bank ATM.
Also remember that you get S.75 protection with a credit card - even when spending overseas; debit cards do not offer that protection.0 -

Could I just confirm, going to Australia early next year so for cash withdrawls over there it would be best to use a Nationwide Flex Debit Card and for purchases use either a Post Office or Santander Credit Card?0

That would be the right approach...make sure you inform the CC companies that you will using it in Australia - while this will not be a 100% guarantee your card might not be blocked, it will at least increase your chances will not be blocked
Carry a back up card... 0 -

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but looking at http://www.nationwide.co.uk/current_account/foreigntransactions.htm there seems to be no fees for Nationwide Basic Bank Account (Cash Card Account) ATM withdrawals:
- I have a Cash Card Account that I use to withdraw cash when I'm on holiday. Will I be charged?
No. Initially, only Visa debit card transactions will have a fee applied. Your cash card is run by a different provider and is only available for withdrawing cash (it does not have facilities to make purchases online or at retailers). Our Cash Card Account is our Basic Bank Account and is available/suitable for customers who meet the Basic Bank Account criteria.
