I have recently received over £1,200 in charges refunded by Natwest.
The problem I now have is both the accounts the charges relate to have defaults against them. I have made contact with Natwest about the defaults.
Surley these defaults must be removed as the accounts were defaulted by them taking money from the accounts and since refunding them.
Do I have a case for the defaults to be removed and if so what should I do??????
Many thanks in advance
Robert

Depends on the amount refunded against the amount defaulted for.
When were the defaults applied to you?0 -

£1,200 refunded against a default amount of £700. The defaults were placed on my account in April 2008. It was a total joke what Natwest did and the whole situation could have been easily avoided. I didnt want to reclaim my charges but they forced my hand!!!!0 -

No one forced your hand but NatWest deciding that the law was not something they could follow.
I would push for the default to be removed.0 -

Actually they did.
I will try and keep it short.
I went to a NATWEST cashline to check my balance. It said I could withdraw £150, I dully did.
I then got paid 2 days later a noticed my wages were short. I went into my branch and asked if it was a fault from the bank or my work. I was told I had withdrawn money 2 days ago when I shouldnt have. I actually only had £50 in my account but the ATM allowed me to take £150. I asked how this could be and wait for it the answer was.................. we allow you to do that because we believe you will put the money in your account the next day!!!!!!!!!! ( I got told this off 3 different people)
Obviously I was not amused by this.
After the staff memeber gave me a number to call I did a bit of complaining and basically said I wanted the charge that was going to be incurred for this un authorised overdraft returned. I wasnt bothered by the other charges they were my fault. They didnt want to return the charges naturally.
I went into my branch where I was taken into an office and a staff member phoned on my behalf to try and sort out the complaint. The guy on the other end of the phone wanted to speak to me which I did and I told him the full story.
To my amazment he turned round and said I dont like what you are saying and im closing your accounts now and hung up!!!!
The natwest staff member could not belive what had happened and said he cant shut your account for that but he did!!!! I then told the staff member I was going to reclaim all my charges and his reply was...............so you should that is a disgrace what happened to you today.
So I think you will agree my hand was forced!!!0 -

I still cant believe they did it. I told them I would claim back the charges if they didnt refund that 1 charge which they didint.
Also when the account closed it was something like £96 in debit. They continued placing charges on the account even though it was closed!!!!!!!! thats how it has reached £700. I have all the documentation to prove this and have let the FSO know about this so hope they will help with the defaults.
Fingers crossed0
