yes thanks Julesmum - I have e-mailed them, and waiting for a response...
I'm not sure that they would travel from Paignton to Doddiscombleigh though - but we shall see...!

Well - I think that all the bakeries in Devon must be surviving the recession quite well - as none of them, except Warrens, have even acknowledged my e-mail.
Bit of a shame when I am trying to give them some work...!!

If you can possibly phone them, I would suggest that. For one thing, you never know whether an email is getting through, whereas you know whether someone has answered the phone or not. I know it may mean they are losing business by not answering emails, but if it's not part of their core business it may be way down their list of things to do! And they may not expect enquiries to come in that way.

Am I imagining it, or do some of the supermarkets offer a personalised cake decorating service?

I could phone them Sue - but I am always a bit wary of phoning companies when they might be busy - that's why I prefer to e-mail, so that they can answer when they get time....but then I am too impatient to wait for a reply!!

Supermarkets do do cake decoration - but they won't deliver - that is the stumbling block, I need the cake to get to the restaurant..!

For a bakery, I'd suggest phoning mid morning, between the 'on the way to work' and the 'lunchtime' rush, or after about 2.30 before the 'on my way home' rush ...

I prefer email because I can say what I want to say in my own time, but it doesn't always work! :rotfl:

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions - sadly nobody could help.
Instead, my friend is making a Birthday cake, and I am going to take it with me - it won't be the surprise that I wanted it to be, but at least he will have a birthday cake!!
