Peugeot 206 Problems, can you help?
Hi all,
I've recently had my whole exhaust and brakes replaced on my 2001 Y 206.
It's due for it's timing belt change service soon and MOT next week.
The light behind the odometer has just gone (speedo and rev counter still work and in the dark when lights are on, the odometer is a very very faint display and is still counting) and the drivers door (it's a 3 door) has just begun to stick when you shut it, hard to explain but you seem to have to lift it slightly and slam the door hard!
I'm not really in a position to change the car and need to get the faults repaired. Are there any mechanics/car fans who can shed any light on whats wrong with the door and odometer (I think that's what you call it!) and how much it would cost (just an average price).
Thanks,
Benchyboo.

The tiny bulb behind the odometer has gone.....you need to replace it. You can go to a scrpayard and practice on a car there before tackling yours (you can also take the bulb from the scrap car back with you). As far as the door is concerned, look at the hinges on the chassis. they might need tightening. Relport back, good luck.0

Thanks for your quick reply...will let you know how I get on although I can't see myself attempting the repairs, I'll try my husband or my dad!0

It could be as simple as the bulb has blown in the dash that illuminates the odometer.
as for the door,do you have a tendancy to lean on the top of your door? it could a bent or even a worn door pin or hinge.
dont hang about too long regarding the timing belt, get it done as it could cost you a lot more if it snaps.
while the car is in the garage ask if they could have a look at the other faults if your not comfortable having a go yourself....work permit granted!0 -
Odometer not lighting up - Give it a firm tap with your knuckle, And it should light up.
My Volvo did that so I gave it a firm tap and it works ok now.
The door sounds as thou the pin has dropped down making the door uneven, Try and lift the door and push a similar pin back in?
Not a major problem.Thomson 757 Man0 -
you could get a cheap LED spolight for a couple of quid from Halfrauds and either wire it in or plug it in to your cigarette lighter. Do you really need to see the mileage though?0
