how much for hiring car for filming

A TV production company has contacted me about using my vintage beetle for filming in a tv show. They want it for a few hours and offering me £30. This seems a bit low to me. Anyone have experience of this/know what is a reasonable rate?

I've read something about this before, what about your insurance I recall reading something previously and can't remember where but the tv company expected to use the owners insurance which I am sure that most policies won't cover this type of thing.

Personally I would not let anyone borow my vintage car unless I was there and did the driving, so £30 I don't think is enough

There are actual agencies that arrange this very thing, I remebr once seeing seomething on TV about it and £30 was way less than they were talking.

If you wanted to hire a "normal" car for 3 hours from a rent a car place, youd be looking at at least £50 in fact most places you cant hire for less than a day. Id ask them for 200, depends how much you need the money!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

My OH was asked to allow a tv channel to use a photograph he owns of a very famous celebrity taken some years ago. It was to be used for a very short insert in a programme. He was offered £25 for that one use. £30 for the use the car therefore seems extremely low.

I wouldnt risk a vintage car for £30, if you own a vintage beetle you certainly dont NEED £30. Name your price and see what they say.
  • Actually I do need the money (They approached me because they saw it advertised for sale). You're going to tut at me for being a coward but I've asked for £50. The car's going to be stationery so insurance isn't a worry and they only need it for a couple of hours. I've looked at classic car hire sites and seems like they charge about £100 a day. So they are getting a bargain but anything at all is a bonus for me right now.

Fair enough - all money is good. Just make sure you dont end up out of pocket - make sure they send a flatbed to collect and redeliver the car and see if you can get a wash and valet out of them too.

I would be extremely careful with this. I know of someone who's father was scammed with a similar thing. He had a vintage motorcycle advertised. A film company asked if they could hire it. He hasn't seen it since.

Usual price is about £100 afaik, if it isn't an expensive car, plus £5 per mile they use the car for. I would also check with their insurance incase it is damaged etc as your insurance won't cover that. I would be checking with the policy provider when you get the document aswell.
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200

When I've let film companies use any of my, it's usually the rate similar to that of an 'extra', maybe £60 - £80/day.

But mine are NOT specialist vehicles, like yours, so be cheeky & double this amount!

But as mentioned, do be wary of how it's getting to the location - best if they paid YOU to deliver/collect.

& make sure you're paid per day they have use of it - NOT filming days. Else it could be away for a week & only filming for 1 day!
