How does one work out the financial assets in a divorce...

how do we work out the inventory of the assets between mum and ex (not yet ex been dragging on in the courts for years....!)

1) Mum had a house before marriage . An annexe was added (which provided additional accommodation) nearly as a separate house (the value of annexe think about 35K). She found a buyer . They were both sold but the house assets were frozen so found herself with no money and her assets frozen for 2 years as he claimed that he was entitled to them (even though his name was not on it and one was bought before marriage> Also mum paid for the houses with money from my gran - obviously they went up in the meantime).

2) After 2 years got her money from 1st house. She struggled with no money for 2 years .

3) He was condemend initially to pay her £150 per month but he never did.

4) he lives comfortable with pensions totalling £1300 per month (he was already on this when she met him). She was not yet retired (but unemployed) but now on minimum state pension.

5) He had cash assets that we can prove of about £40K too (though the figure is probably nearer £100K though not sure we can prove it as mum does not think has all of the paperwork she thinks).

If we want a clean cut how do we work out a fair share ? maybe someone with a financial mind here can help us as we are struggling and this divorce has been dragging on for about 8 years!
Any help appreciated.

Mum is very stressed out and wants the last of this.

thanks in advance.
