Radiator covers

Options
Hi there, just a quickish question here. I've just decorated my hallway and have got 2 radiatiors. One against a painted wall, one against a wood lagged wall.

I was going to paint the one against the painted wall in matching colour but wondered about putting radiator covers over them instead - especially as the one against the wood I cannot match colour.

Are they easy to fit and do they still let all the heat out same as no cover:confused:

If I paint them, would they be best in white (same as woodwork) or same shade as painted walls. And should the one against the wood be the same as against painted wall?

My hallway is L shaped with a radiator on each side of the 'L' and the wood is mahogany and is on the longest wall of the 'L'.

What would anyone else do?

Thanks

  • Radiator covers can look nice, although I always wonder if they reduce the heat being allowed out. Generally they are made from MDF, so painted white usually look good.

Shop around though, B&Q etc don't alway offer good deals!

They will reduce the heat output be about 20%.

Got mine from Argos. Painted them with the same emulsion paint as the walls - look good !
I drilled some additional holes at the top of the sides to allow a bit more heat flow through the cover - 16 to 20mm.
Don't forget to put reflective foil on the wall behind the rads.

1sttimer - I am still debating whether to buy radiator covers. Am still in two minds. If you do a search there are a couple of threads detailing the pros and cons.
