Quick car tax question.
Hello, Quick question hope some of you can help.
My girlfriend has just bought a used car from a garage. The car doesn't have a tax disc so we assumed it has no tax. She isn't going to drive it until her insurance certificate comes through and then go down to the post office to get a years tax. I have just checked on the DVLA website and it says the cars "date of Liability" for the road fund license is next February.
Does that mean that the car is taxed and we could apply for a duplicate tax disc saying the original one is lost? She doesn't mind paying for a years tax, but it seems silly to pay when there could be 5 months outstanding?
Anyone else come across this sort of scenario before?
I think we will give the DVLA a ring in the morning.

It means its taxed, but the current owner has probably sent it in to be cashed in. Just get it taxed as originally planned. The jobsworth behind the counter at the PO will tell you it's already taxed too.0

Thanks for the reply. Just found the DVLA are still open so gave them a ring. A nice young man said we had two options:
Go to a DVLA local office and get a temporary tax disc for £7, which will last a month. When the V5 comes through we can them apply for a duplicate full tax disc.
Or
Go to the post office and pay for a full years tax which will start the tax date and overwrite the old tax.0 -
Have you ever been to a LVLO? They are dire places...!
Just go to the PO and do it all there. Job done...0
