My OH did exactly the same when we went shopping this week. I think he is starting to appreciate what I am trying to do and can see that I am making changes.
He still nags me about wearing new clothes though - which I am pointing out that they aren't new, I just bought them before my moneysaving days and never got round to wearing them - BTW, this is true this time - it's exactly what I would tell him a year ago, but I mean it this time!!!!

My mum and dad laughed at me today for picking up things in shops which I like, holding them up to myself and then putting them back. I even pick things up in supermarkets and then put them back. I've even gone back round a supermarket when I've got to the end and put things back I've thought twice about!! I tell them thats the reason why I've got savings on such a small income.

Anyone else feel it's a bit like an addiction but hopefully one that won't eventually kill you!! Since I've been watching the pennies I also get really grumpy if I spend over what I've budgeted, in fact it can make me feel quite depressed!! Seriously I am a lot happier as for once I feel in control (well almost) and I've no intention of going back to how I used to be - I wasn't over the top but just didn't keep a tight enough check on things. Plus the OH and DD's have all joined in (funny when you see a 13 yr old putting something back on the rail because 'it's too much money').

As I've said before this site has been a godsend - it's much easier to handle when you know others are in the same boat and you can all exchange views and ideas. Thanks you lot!

I think you should try and look at it a different way, think of it as an opportunity to learn, if there are ways to cut back sometimes you have to make mistakes to learn

Me and my friend are doing a spreadsheet which will list all our monthly outgoings into several colums such as Housing, bills, car expenses, entertainment, food/other shopping, etc.

That way at the end of the month we can both sit down and say this is what the money went on, it doesnt matter if we spent money on rubbish at first, but from that we can look at it and say this is the area i need to focus on improving, can i find cheaper petrol, cheaper groceries, avoid spending situations which arise?

That way you cant kid yourself and also because we will be looking at each others, we may be embarressed into improving :)

    Its all a learning curve
