Sainsburys have started to put machines in...perhaps they realise that nowadays, some people end up shopping after gathering up all the bits and pieces of change around their home....used to be people let change sit down the back of settees and on bedside tables...not anymore

Tesco charge 8.9% as well if you just want to take the cash (You can cash in the voucher at customer service desk). However if you use it for your shopping you dont get charged
  • first trust bank were always good for cashing in change, and i've never had an account with them. they just use the little scales to make sure you've counted the bags out right and send you off with nice crisp notes instead of stinky pennies!

Over here on the Mainland there are similar policies too - 5 bag limit.
I would gues it's because they might not have much call for all the change since so many people use cards now, there may not be the demand for change from shops.

I would love to know WHY banks limit the amount they will take.

Also, would it be possible to telephone and make an appointment to deposit bagged cash...it's not as if it has to be counted, merely weighed.

I just seen this one last night. It's a Coinstar and takes 8.9 pence for each pound counted.
