Should I work notice or take gardening leave?

I've been made redundant this morning, my employer has been flexible on whether I work my notice or not (7 weeks) can anyone advise what option is best working notice or gardening leave? I assume I still get paid in the same way for both options?

depends if you can make useful contacts in the workplace, or if it'll stop you applying for new stuff.
I think I would do any essential handover work and be available by phone but concentrate on my cv and finding a new position.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
I think the right decision is something only you can consider, however, generic points:
Work your notice - helps company out, may improve a future reference, could turn out well for you further down the line should you cross paths with boss/need a job when the business picks up.
Gardening leave - would give you more time to search for another job. Could be nice to have a break to think what you want to do next/sort out jobs around the house etc.
The above does assume the amount being paid is the same, but you do need to check this with your employer.0 -
Depends on what your job is really. If it's a manual job or driving job etc then I would be out of there straight away.
If you work in an office and can make use of the internet/phone etc for free then I would say firstly finish up all your work and any handover needed. Then work on your cv and do some copies, save all your personal stuff, note down all your contacts, arrange any interviews etc. You could do all of that this week and still have six weeks off.
Good luck with finding a new job.0 -
How much does it cost to get to work?
will they let you job hunt from the office, phone photocopy etc.
Given the option I would do whatever is needed to keeps things sweet and get out.
Are they also flexable on you starting a new job early will they still pay you?
Why not ask for PILON if they don't need, you you can start JSA imediately rather than wait 7 weeks.0
