I am looking to buy a couple of convector heaters to heat a 1 bedroom flat,something that will do the job but not too hard on electric,any ideas

All electric heaters are 100% efficient. That is to say a 2kW heater gives you 2KW of heat irrespective of how expensive it is to buy so they will all be equally hard on electricity for a given rating. You would probably need a 3kW heater for your sitting room but could make do with a smaller one in the bedroom. Whatever you buy make sure it has a thermostat.0
