Amazon and Toshiba LCD TV

Can anyone help? I bought a 37" Toshiba LCD TV directly from Amazon in Jan 2008.
At the weekend I got a vertical green line on the left hand of the screen. I rang toshiba and they said it was out of warranty so would I would have to contact a local repair agent. Surely a TV should last longer than 18 months?
Where do I stand under the Sale of Goods Act and Amazon?

• In general, the onus is on all purchasers to prove the goods did not conform to contract (e.g. was inherently faulty) and should have reasonably lasted until this point in time (i.e. perishable goods do not last for six years).
After six months and until the end of the six years, it is for the consumer to prove the lack of conformity.
You will have to get a independent engineers report0
