what happened to the "spelling" thread

wasn't on much over the weekend and when I looked this morning the thread about poor spelling etc has dissapeared.
Does anyone know why? did it get a bit heated?

Thanks

All of the debate threads get deleted. People turn to harsh personal insults instead of discussing the matter at hand.
  • Surprising, really, that people who can't seem to be bothered to write properly and present their thoughts as if they're something worth reading suddenly seem to take so much offence when they're called on it.

I mean, they spend most days writing as if they're tanked-up and/or clinically 'tarded because, quite frankly, they can't be ars*d to take ten seconds just to run an eye over their post - so how come they get all bristly and offended when someone points out to them it looks like they wrote it at two in the morning after getting in from a heavy night out?

Personally, I like to think that it took so long to get it deleted because the board mods couldn't quite work out, to begin with, what was written in the emails to Abuse requesting the thread be pulled....... :)
  • I like to think it was deleted because of two reasons, people were using it as an insult thread, and it was a pointless vent. Some people just don't feel posts are so important that they need to spend time checking over them for spelling when it's quite clear what is meant anyway - which you can hardly blame them for.

Actually I most certainly do blame them for that because it shows a total lack of consideration for their readers. Communication is the most important tool (along with opposable thumbs) our species has and it's terribly depressing that there appears to be a growing feeling that it's 'not important'.

  • Maybe, but I think there's a lot of people on here (the Vent forum at least) who don't deserve that consideration.

The OP began the thread clearly spoiling for a fight, if I remember rightly - they then threw their toys out of the pram when faced with a few people who really weren't saying a lot more than "if you want people to read and respond helpfully to your thread it's polite to have the courtesy to make sure they're able to read it".

Interesting that some people were quite happy for it to be a vent against "grammar fascists" or whatever, but then took umbrage when lazy, inconsiderate posters were added to the equation.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that if someone can't be bothered to take time over what they post, then they shouldn't much complain when nobody takes them seriously.

There are spellcheckers, grammar tools, thesaurus and dictionary resources online, free, and accessible to everyone using the very same PC they're typing their ham-fisted gobbledegook on - there really is no excuse for this inconsiderate laziness.
