How does VI affect what we think?

Ooops, I forgot to answer the poll. Not sure any option suits us TBH. We'd be better off if prices fall (ATM), but have no idea what the hell is happening.0

not sure about the use of vested here. often vi is used to describe peoples thoughts here but imo posting opinion here cannot change anything - a true vi must come from a position of influence and power.
that said - voted doesn't matter to me* and think they'll fall
*not strictly true as I have family on different sides of all this. If some win it will be as others lose - whatever happens - so it balances out imo
would like transactions to rise tho imoPrefer girls to money0 -
!!!!!!. House prices have overtaken wages. Therefore people spend MORE on a house than they used to. Therefore they are WORSE off.
I generalise to make a point because clearly SOME PEOPLE DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT PAYING 200K FOR A SH1THOLE DOES TO YOUR FINANCES.0 -

The problem comes from the inverse relationship between the quality of our society and house prices.
The more expensive and unobtainable human needs becomes, the lower our standard of living gets. Over the past 10 years out overall standard of living had plummetted. We are all now poorer.
I don't know if I agree with this. My parents were in very similar jobs to me and my wife at our age (late twenties) and they certainly had a bigger, cheaper house than us. In fact I can say with certainty that the house they bought at our age as their first house we couldn't afford now.
But our standard of life is certainly better in my opinion and my Dad's. We can afford to eat better and have the world's cuisine at our fingertips. We can chose to eat out more too and in a variety of different restaurnts. Cars are better and far more reliable. We have the internet and all the luxuries that brings. We travel a hell of a lot more and have been to places that my parents couldn't dream of going. The one big holiday they had just before I was born was to Canada, where we recently went. I believe that our plane tickets weren't much more than the price my parents paid around 30 years ago.
One thing my Dad always comments on is furniture: he think's it's wonderful that you can kit house a whole house from furntire from IKEA for a grand when him and Mum used to have to save up for expensive stuff with no other option.
I think society is a weird one to judge. I think we're a more tolerant and forward thinking society, but possibly not as friendly or community orientated.
I dunno, maybe it's swings and roundabouts.0 -

I know what you're saying and I agree with you with regards ease of travel, foreign food, cars etc. It's all made our lives more comfortable, convenient and safer.
All of these things have come as a result of technology.
My argument is that developing new technologies, creating wealth and improving people's lives does not have to go hand in hand with a debt based economy.
There is no reason to think that you can't have one without the other.
There is no reason why you can't have those creature comforts and be able to buy that equivalent house to your father other than the money has been stolen by the banks and their puppets in government.
The answer is small government, low taxes and sound money.
Or, if you prefer the shorter version ....................

Agree with pretty much all of that, great post.
What's weird is that I have no qualms with not being able to buy the house my Dad bought at my age. I don't really care that much, it's just somewhere to live. It's too expensive now, and then that's that really. It all goes in cycles and I'm sure over the next 100 years someone will buy it cheaper (relatively) than my parents did.
We can afford a house, and I'm more bothered about all the other stuff really. I also don't get that my money has been stolen by the banks and 'puppets in government'. My Dad had a cheaper house but, as I've pointed out, paid more for pretty much everything else. So under your logic I should be thanking the government for giving me money and making everything cheaper, right?Inflation is theft.
Oh don't start, you were doing really well...0 -
