Vaillant or Worcester Bosch?

Which is the best option to have for a four bed, one bathroom, and an on-suite?

Vaillant EcoTec plus 837
Vaillant EcoTec Exclusive 838
Worcester Bosch 37 or 42CDi.

All the pipes for the existing boiler come down to it, so the WB looks a good option with the wall plate and manifold, does anyone know if the Vaillant has the same, or is it all piped from the bottom only?

Want to go for a combi, rather than keep a tank.

  • The heating engineers love Vaillant but I find Worcester boilers are very long lasting and less problematic. I saw one at the weekend that was 20 years old and had been moved and refitted in the loft - still chugging nicely.

id go for the worcester 37 or 42 cdi.

ive had no problems with my worcester at all, and the in laws have had no trouble on their 10 year old combi either.
all friends have worcester too and are all excellent.
  • We had a Worcester and had nothing but trouble with it. I know a lot of plumbers swear by them though. Ours must have been a Friday afternoon one

have a look at veismann boilers, check spelling maybe.
    theyre good too.
also make sure its got a stainless steel heat exchanger.
imo you wont go wrong with worcester, ive got the 30si with an mt10rf wireless stat/programmer.ive had no trouble and its saving me a fortune in gas bills compared to the old 20 year old boiler i had before.

Vaillant's have stainless steel heat exchangers as opposed to the aluminium of the WBs.
We don't have a combi but our vaillant feed and return enter at the top, gas pipe enters below and condensate exits at bottom. I would imagine their combi's are similar but check on vaillant uk website in the manuals.
Of the two i'd go for the Vaillant because of the heat exchangers but i don't think there is a great deal of difference other than that. Other thing that i factored into my own choice between the two makes was that Vaillant's headquarters in the UK are at Rochester so fairly local to me (i'd rather support the local economy and if i need a service engineer from the manufacturers they are closer to hand).

Thanks for the replies, it looks like the Vaillant 838 will be the one.
Can be piped from the top, and a three year warranty as well.

Just to add in case you dont realise that the condition is subject to you getting it serviced annually throughout that time. Allow upto £100 a year for servicing (though you may get it cheaper). Will be much the same regardless of what boiler though so it's an unavoidable expense if you want to keep it in warranty! So in some ways a longer warranty isn't necessarily a good thing if you can't afford the recommended servicing!

I've had mine done for about £70-80 these last few years, North London area.
  • I am a heating engineer with british gas. I would advise going for the worcester 37cdi, this will more than meet your needs. All vaillant boilers I have installed are piped from below and can probably only be done from above if you buy additional stand off bracket for boiler. I would be happy to help you out with any other questions you have.
    Hope this helps
