Hi are my strawberries OK left out during the winter until next year?

    Yes,,,they will die back but re appear next year :-) My friend puts hers in pots in the ground to give them some protection,,, mine are always fine though left as they are in strawberry planters.

  • If they're in pots already just gently lift them out when they're fully recovered (early Summer) and if the roots are circling round close to the edge of the pot then re-pot, if not just leave them be. Strawberries don't need deep roots (some people grow them in grow-bags) but it is advised to replace plants every 3 years.

    Strawberries are very hardy. The only thing to avoid is over or under watering.

  • Sorry to butt in on this thread but is it OK to lift strawberries from a bed and overwinter them in pots , will it upset them doing that now ?

    to remove them from beds put in pots,,, i tend to follow the advice to not upset plants when in flower,, strawbs are very hardy,, im sure they will be fine!

    Better to leave them in, not damage roots, make them angry, etc.
