Capital one taking my DD out a week early!!

Has anyone else had the same experience?
I have paperless billing but I ALWAYS put every single direct debit payment note on my calender so I know exactly whats going where. Luckily I'm saving as were going on holiday soon otherwise I would have happily spent the 50 odd quid they took out EARLY and would have been charged hilarious amounts by my bank! Normally by the end of the week I'm spent up down to the last few quid.

Has this happend to anyone else? This is the second time that I can remember this happening luckily I had the money to cover it. What can I do about it? I don't want to go back to paying it off my own back because I've had trouble with Barclays and the transfer times which ended in more chrages for me

I get paperless billing too. I just log onto the website and pay using my card online.
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.

IME, Capital One has always taken the DD five days before the payment due date.
If memory serves, this is mentioned on statements. I still think it's a bit of a nerve

Don't have access to my Capital One statements right now, but I'm pretty sure it does tell you on the statement (online/paper) that the DD will be taken up to 5 working days before the due date.

Captial One's direct debit dates are taken 'about' two working days before the due date. This is unpredictable however. Any decent credit card would only collect on the due date itself.

PS I don't even have a DD set up any longer since they changed the 16 digit account number. I now only ever pay them manually
.....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam
  • It's only done it twice to my knowledge. Every time I check the date on the website and it does go out on the date it says. It's just gone out a week before!

Also, unrelated O2 took the money out early. As far as I know and that I've read on the DD guarantee etc if it's due to go out on the weekend then they should take the money out AFTER i.e the Monday or Tuesday if it's a bank holiday! They took it out on the Thursday or Friday complete disregard for the rules!

We find that British Gas also take DD up to five days in advance.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
