Problems Burning a CD from iTunes?

I am trying to burn some downloaded songs from iTunes to a CD-R, but iTunes doesn’t recognise either of my CD drives (NEC DVD ± RW or CD ± RW).
I understand from the iTunes help button that I need to reinstall my iTunes package to try and get iTunes to recognise the drives. Is this correct? Or is there another way to go about it?
If I do have to reinstall iTunes, will this delete my library that I have built up within iTunes?

I'm not sure about itunes not recognising your cd drives, but you will have problems burning songs to cd that you have downloaded from itunes, as they are copyright protected.
I tried lots of different ways but ended up paying for tunebite

i think i can make 5 copies of any downlaods (burning to cd) as i have actually legally bought them, but as i mentioned before i cant actually burn it yet as iTunes does not recognise my cd drives for some unknown reason.Rock on MSE!!!0

Make sure your PC recognises your drive first. It is highly unlikely for iTunes not to pick up the drive if it is already recognised on your computer.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

My machine would not recognise my drives for some reason, no matter what I tried. So I removed iTunes and it caused even more problems. I had to remove some files from my registry as my PC would not even recognise my CD & DVD drives. Once I had rectified that problem I reinstalled iTunes and it recognised my drives and all of my old songs and preferences were automatically saved. So after a bit of fuss it all worked out well in the end.Rock on MSE!!!0
