Hi,
I'd be grateful for a little advice.
I have the Orange Livebox which allows me to access the internet.
I have a pc connected to the Livebox, with the Vista operating system
I'm having trouble setting up a home network between the pc and another pc, which is running with XP Professional.
This means I can't establish an internet connection between the two pcs.
Does any one know how to set up a network between Vista and XP pro pcs?
Is there another way of connecting the second pc to the internet?
I'm grateful for any help offered.
thank you.
Scott

The Orange Livebox is an ADSL wireless router.
So imagine this as a central point that everything passes through. PC1 (Vista) goes to Livebox and then to internet - PC2 (Xp) will go to Livebox and then to internet. PC1 can through Livebox to PC2 and vice-versa for file and priter sharing.
Now, how are they connected, wired or wireless, or one of each.0 -

Thank you for replying.
Well, PC 1 is connected to the Livebox via a cable.
I can't get PC 2 to connect at all. I'm trying to set up a wireless connection from the Livebox to PC 2.
I've been trying to set up a home network between PCs 1 and 2, but I'm having no joy.
I was wondering if there was another way of setting up a wireless connection from the Livebox to PC 2, without networking the 2 PCs?
Thank you again."Life may not be the party we hoped for... but while we are here, we might as well DANCE !!!":j0 -
First connect PC2 to the Livebox by using an ethernet cable. Once you have a wired connection working, then you can try to get a wireless connection. What wireless adaptor are you using on PC2 to try and connect wirelessly? Is it compatible with the Livebox?
It's not necessary to network the 2 PC's, they can simply share the ADSL connection supplied by the Livebox. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thank you for the helpful advice.
I've actually been trying to connect PC 2 wirelessly to PC 1 by just using the internal wireless adapter.
Perhaps, this is my mistake."Life may not be the party we hoped for... but while we are here, we might as well DANCE !!!":j0 -
Hold button 1 on the livebox (on the side), untill the wireless light starts flashing on the livebox, this will make the livebox visable for 5 minutes.
search for wirless devices from your laptop, this should bring up the livebox, click connect. You can then enter the WEP key (if not changed from deafult) from the bottom of your livebox to connect.
If you need to administer your livebox (if not changed from default). On a connected pc, use internet explorer and connect to: (click the links if you want)
This Will give you access to the admin page if you need to make any changes to your livebox.
default username is: admin default password is: admin
When you have more than one PC connected to a DHCP server (livebox in your case), you kinda have a network. It just depends what you want your home network to do. Is it just file sharing and a media server your after ?
