advice needed!

My daughter has just started as Bedford Uni and the house she is sharing with 3 others has a phone connection but doesn't actually have a landline number. They want broadband and have explored a number of companies - no fibre optic so have to have an active landline. Two of the sudents are with 02 so can get the discount deal but BT want over £100 to connect the already existing landline as well as the line rental. They don't even want to use a landline as they all have mobile contracts. Can anybody give advice?

If they'll be there for 18 months, take advantage of BT's free connection offer. The 10 calls per month required can be made for nothing (at the weekend when calls of up to 60 minutes each to UK 01, 02, 03, 0845 and 0870 numbers are inclusive).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
