Hi, I have made some changes to my kitchen and only have space on my spice rack for 15 herbs/spices.
If you were in this position which 15 could you not live without and why?

If I couldn't get fresh ones it would be parsley, oregano, basil, chives and thyme straight off. Any others I could live without save for chilli flakes which I like on almost anything but every cook is different. You might be a keen baker for instance so you might use all sorts of things more often than others do.0

As it is I don't have a spice rack so I keep most of the 50 different spices I seem to have in a drawer and the rest in the cupboard. Most of my herbs are growing in the garden.
My essential 15 herbs & spices are, but I like to have them all in their whole form as well as the ground form.
cumin
coriander
ginger
cinnamon
mixed spice
paprika
smoked paprika
nutmeg
cayenne
black peppercorns
oregano
garam masala
herbes de Provence (thyme, lavander, rosemary, savory, fennel, marjoram)
cardomom
allspice
I really like Bart's seasoning blends. Baharat, Ras el Hanout, Cajun, poultry, fish, Creole.0 -
Basil, mixed herbs, oregano, parsley, rosemary, sage, thyme.
Hot chilli powder (what's the point of mild?), cumin, garam masala, turmeric. (I use fresh ginger for curries, as & when required)
Five spice powder.
How many is that? 12. Does salt & black pepper count? The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
I don't have many, only bought any since I started making bread.
From memory, I have: mixed herbs, oregano, rosemary, coriander, garam masala, garlic salt, chilli, basil, curry powder.
I also have some I've never even used yet: cinnamon, paprika, er, some other ones.
And those I do have I've hardly used to be honest. Full of good intentions, but I don't get the chance to actually cook for anybody but me, so you end up not bothering.0 -
I'm quite similar to thriftlady.
