Lakes Kitchens

Has anyone had a Lakes kitchen installed in their home? Any advice on how they rate in terms of quality and how they would compare in quality to Howdens or B&Q's Cooke and Lewis range?

Hmmm I've never heard of them, but just had a look at their brochure online.
Looks like pretty basic stuff TBQH
I wouldn't touch their 15mm carcases, as they are very basic and only come with a metabox drawer system.
The 18mm don't look too bad, (apart from having a very basic colour choice) as at least you get a better drawer system, although soft close seems to be an added extra.
They are probably somewhere in between B&Q and Howdens...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Lakes kitchens are a distributions trade name...and not a B&Q brand
As for the thickness of the units, it doesnt matter if they are 15mm or 18mm...som people think 18mm is better, but they are NOT.
Lakes kitchen units are built to the same standard as most other kitchen brands.
The price comes in the constuction of the doors, some are solid wood while others are what they call foil....its down to taste....0 -

Hmm, well actually it does, but that wasn't the point I was making. The point I was making was that the 15mm carcases only come with BASIC fittings, whereas the 18mm carcases come with soft-close, tandembox etc etc
But whilst you are on the subject of 15mm and 18mm carcases. It can make a HUGH difference, depending on what the carcases are made from. In the UK, 99% of manufacturers use a medium density MFC to produce their carcases. Whilst a 15mm carcase will be fine for laminate/wooden worktops, if you were to put a 30mm or 40mm granite/silestone (stone worktops in general) then you could see the units bowing over time. The only difference to this is if you are using German kitchens, they use a 15mm carcase as standard, but it is made up of high density MFC and the load bearing strength and impact resistance is very similar to our 18mm carcases...Lakes kitchen units are built to the same standard as most other kitchen brands.
Well, you either work for them, or have some vetted interest in them (why else would you join up to post) so tell us: Which standard? Are they comparable to B&Q or Stoneham or Howdens or RWK or Clive Christian or Wickes or Poggenpohl or Smallbones or Miele or Mereway or Crown or or or...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

I would not advise anybody to use this company. Our kitchen has been installed 6 months & is already falling apart. The worktop can not even withstand a hot cup of tea being poured into a mug without leaving a white ring mark. The company that owns this brand - Mark 2 have been out to inspect & are trying to blame it on customer misuse! AVOID!0
