can someone recommend a good wirless router

I currently have a WGR614V9 router with a wired connection 2 the pc..wireless to laptop,pc(via dongle),xbox and i-phone and recently noticed that the performance on the xbox and the pc(via dongle) has decreased dramatically. FYI the slow devices are located upstairs in the same room so thought that may have something to do with it.....but neither the devices nor the router has moved recently.

I have put this down to the technology on the router being too slow to handle all these connections.

Can anyone recommend a faster router - and dongle to get the speed back up again or is there something else I should be looking at.

  • Change the router wireless channel to another. Can you cable the desktop PC (Ethernet cable, cat5). A router is a router....do you have the latest firmware installed. Has your ISP dropped your speed.

The PC beside the router is cabled, but the upstairs one has to run on wireless(i'm not running cable all the way up the stairs!) The ISP has not dropped the speed and the latest firmware is installed. Thanks for the advice though :)

    I use this one :
    D-Link DIR-655 Wireless N Gigabit Firewall Router

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/D-Link-DIR-655-Wireless-Gigabit-Firewall/dp/B000PLSAII

    It is very good .
    I am using Virgins 20mb package .
    3 PC's , 2 wireless laptops and an X-box 360
The router is located on the 3rd floor of a 3 storey house and can be picked up anywhere inside the house and also the garden.
I wouldn't know about a dongle as the laptops have wifi built in ..although I did look on ebay recently and saw some that looked pretty heavy weight

I used a Billion BiPac 7300N - do a google search as I cannot post URLs.

Lots of functionality and I get good Wireless speed with 4 wireless devices connected all at the same time.

However, as totalsolutions says have you tried to change the wireless channel as there may be another router using the same or adjacent channels.

Have a look at these, I use them, they work brilliantly and are a doddle to set up.
