Text Message Spam

Along with a lot of people, i seem to recieve at least one spam text a week from companies offering all sorts of services, some of which cannot be mentioned here!
Anyway as they all seem to have the word STOP in the message, i am tempted to text stop to the number. However it has also occured to me, that if i did text stop would i therefore recieve more spam. Could i also refer this spam issue to o2 and is there anything they can do about it?

You might want to be careful that your not being charged for these texts!0
