Thanks. Must try it. Can split the tub with friend anyway. That yog, honey and nut thing I adore it too. Also keep bag of frozen mixed berries in the freezer, (£1.29 in tesco...the discount range is virtually the same as the higher priced one, maybe a few more black and redcurrants), defrost a bowlful at a time for me and top with yog and honey.

There is so much more satisfaction in eating the real thing; in terms of taste, but also I believe in the long run, the 'mouth feel' satisfaction and the fact that you are eating something of more nutritional worth, which will sustain you. I don't believe sensible amounts of full-fat foods are going to be responsible for causing you to be overweight.

I see women in the supermarket with multipacks of the dreadful (IMO) Mullerlite yogurts, sometimes with dozens of pots in their trolleys. SW have a lot to answer for in their relentless pushing of what I consider to be 'dead' food. Nutritionally worthless, compared to the real thing and transient in terms of real satisfaction.
:T:TWell said. It is eating too much that makes you fat (and I should know), not eating reasonable amounts of nutritious real food.

I love greek yoghurt with digestive biscuits (try it! it's heavenly!) and was looking forward to it when I did my shop yesterday. Meh!

I have had the Rachel's coconut yog before, it is indeed good - bit pricey for my budget though. Will take a trip to Lidl, ladies...
  • OH & DD LOVE the Yeo Valley greek yogurts with the honey...not cheap but they love them! Try and get when on 2 packs for £2 but have some coming from Abel & Cole this week for £1.59....shocking, but at least I know they will be eaten and not wasted.

DD loves the Value natural yogurts, the big pot ones and this will do her 2 servings as she snacks on them. She has great teeth and bones though.

Aldi do 4 natural greek yogurts for 69p if you can get them or they do the pro-active ones at 99p which are good also.

  • Another vote for Rachels here! Easily the best cows milk yoghurt I have ever had.

The other option is to strain an ordinary yoghurt through some muslin. I really dislike Rachel's yoghurt, couldn't tell you why. Yeo Valley is probably my favourite general yoghurt but the Lidl greek yoghurt is the one I buy most regularly if I'm not making my own.

I like the Lidl yoghurt but actually buy cheapo yoghurt from Morrison's - 49p for a BIG pot - and strain it. I end up with less yoghurt of course but it works out cheaper than a standard big pot yoghurt and even though it's low fat it tastes great when strained. And the quantity suits me too.

Not that I'm anti-fat - we're big olive oil users. I just wanted a thick yoghurt and decided to give the cheap one a go with great success.

I make my own and when I'm feeling like lashing out a bit I use the Easiyo Greek yoghurt mix, which is lovely and creamy. The rest of the time I make it from scratch, starting with a couple of tablespoonsful of 'live' yog (the Easiyo if I've got some) plus milk powder (lots of semi-skimmed make it creamy) and longlife milk. Healthy and cheaper... it's lovely.

  • The big 1kg tub of greek style Lidl yoghurt is on offer starting Monday 12 Oct, reduced from £1.95 to £1.29. Lidl have been changing their offers regularly recently so it will probably only be on offer for a week.

This yoghurt is my favourite, I think it's probably the closest in both texture and taste to the real stuff I've had in Greece.
