So, Sainsbury's have 'improved' their Greek-style yoghurt and made it more healthy by reducing the fat content! (i.e. they can now use more of the fat content to make butter and we get less value for the money). It is now watery and very 'meh' compared to how delicious it was until recently.
I don't hold with reduced fat-reduced taste nonsense. Can anyone now recommend a proper delicious full-fat Greek yoghurt?

Yep, Total (or Fage) or whatever they call it is very good, even the low-fat one but as ifonlyitwaseasier said, the Lidl one in the 1 litre bucket is creamy full-fat goodness. Now, if only I could get my hands on proper Greek ewe's milk yoghurt I'd be in heaven.0

I also find my own whole milk yogurt to be rich, thick and luscious. Not quite like Greek yogurt but gorgoeus none the less.
My favourite ever yogurt is Rachel's Dairy Greek style with coconut:drool::drool:0 -
Total is really nice, but tescos green yoghurt is also yummy and costs less0

The Lidl bucket get a thumbs up from me too,its cheaper than Total(but I like that as well)I do make my own sometimes with a bulk yog maker from Lakeland with whole milk, but prefer the texture of Lidls.Have it every morning for brekkie with chopped nuts and seeds on top.:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Does anyone know if you can buy the Lidle one in smaller quantities than 1 litre buckets? That's too much for me in one go. I don't go for reduced fat options........but do try my best to control my portion size of the real thing !!0 -
Total yoghurt is the only one that tastes "proper" to me and even their 0% fat one is disgusting, I think. I make my own in an EasiYo using two tablepoons of Total full fat as a base, topping up with full-fat UHT milk (because I'm rubbish at gauging the temperature of fresh milk and using UHT negates the need to do so!), filling the thingy up with boiling water and going to bed. It isn't as thick as Total obviously, as Total is strained, but it's also lovely.
I don't hold with this reduced fat nonsense either! When my friend's mum was facing a long wait for gall bladder surgery, about twelve years ago, the doctor told her that she could negate gallstone symptoms by reducing her fat intake; he said she could eat ANYTHING as long as it had less than 12% fat. She followed his advice and lost four stone in the process (she was a big lady to start with, fair enough!). Even full-fat Total only has 10% fat, so she could have been shovelling that in by the tablespoonful and still have been eating perfectly healthily. Also (ooh, watch out - soapbox alert), have you looked at the list of INGREDIENTS on some low-fat foods? Either they're full of sugar and thickeners or else they're full of aspartame - and don't even get me started on aspartame... :eek:0 -
In my local Lidl they only stock the one litre buckets BUT it does keep for a good, long time. I'm almost certain that the last time I bought it the "use by" date was at least a whole calendar month ahead. Not that I can keep good Greek-style yoghurt in the fridge that long, there's always something to go with it, even if it's just honey and some crushed nuts for a breakfast or a pudding. MMMM! I must just have to pop out and get some now0

Thanks. Must try it. Can split the tub with friend anyway. That yog, honey and nut thing I adore it too. Also keep bag of frozen mixed berries in the freezer, (£1.29 in tesco...the discount range is virtually the same as the higher priced one, maybe a few more black and redcurrants), defrost a bowlful at a time for me and top with yog and honey.
There is so much more satisfaction in eating the real thing; in terms of taste, but also I believe in the long run, the 'mouth feel' satisfaction and the fact that you are eating something of more nutritional worth, which will sustain you. I don't believe sensible amounts of full-fat foods are going to be responsible for causing you to be overweight.
I see women in the supermarket with multipacks of the dreadful (IMO) Mullerlite yogurts, sometimes with dozens of pots in their trolleys. SW have a lot to answer for in their relentless pushing of what I consider to be 'dead' food. Nutritionally worthless, compared to the real thing and transient in terms of real satisfaction.0 -
I'm a fan of the Rachel's one too, although I am a bit biased as the original "Rachel" farms not far from me and I am friends with her nieces (the company has since been sold).0
