screwfix direct and faulty boiler

Posts: 3 Newbie
we ordered a boiler from screwfix direct arrived a day late, paid for it to be installed but it did not work, had to wait for the manufacturers engineer to inspect it advised that it was faulty, had been dropped probably after dispatch from manufacturer, Biasi, told screwfix who accepted responsibility for this dispatched replacement, we paid for the faulty one to be removed and replaced by new boiler, sent screwfix the bill for the second installation fee but they are not prepared to meet the cost, £300, what can we do, we wouldn't have had this second fee if they had supplied working boiler in the first place.

in accepting a replacement you have allowed then to rectify the problem which means they wont entertain what would be an insurance claim.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I agree with Chrissyg, you contacted them to resolve a dispute, both parties greed that a replacement would be provided. No mention of any payments etc;
You should have mentioned it before they resolved the situation by providing a replacment, you cant turn around and change the goal posts.
I rather suspect that a small claims court would give you the same advice!When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0 -
Surely your fitters should have done checks to ensure it worked before it was fitted.0

Hi and thanks it was mentioned when we contacted Screwfix that they accepted liability for the sending out a faulty boiler and we were advised by the custimer service agent to send the bill for the new installation. As regards to checking the boiler it was a internal gas pipe that had become detached because of item had been dropped and in fairness to our fitter they would not have checked the inside of any boiler before installing one.0

Hi,
I have a Biasi Prisma combi boiler that only fires for about 10 seconds before stopping for about 10 seconds. This process continues over and over again for as long as the hot water or heating is on. Any ideas on this as it's pretty frustrating?
Thanks0 -
in fairness to screwfix how would they know there was an internal fault ? have you tried to contact the manufacturer ? the person you spoke to gave the correct advice[ ie submit a claim] as that would be dealt with by a different department this in no way is admitting liability or agreeing to pay costs.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. but surely they wouldve checked that it worked first before leaving your site... I'd just send them the bill anyways and see what happens
I hated the thought of having my boiler installed but we went to one of those tradesman sites and had a couple of quotes for installation only and the bloke we chose actually recommended a really good boiler for us and its great!!one of the famous 5

Hi just to give a quick up date we submitted the 2 installation invoices to screwfix who as a good will gesture agreed to pay the 2nd installation charge, we received the cheque last week less than a week after accepting the offer.0

The same symptom is common on certain Potterton boilers - its usually down to a fault on the PCB, something as simple as a faulty relay. Basically, when the boiler decides to fire up, it will do a number of checks to make sure that all's okay, and if not, it will fail safe. So you're hearing it start up because there is a demand for heat (water or C/H) and then its not getting all the checkboxes ticked during the error checking so it's cycling off.

Come on Grumpy, what would you like them to do? - Rig up a piece of hose pipe to the gas main and gaffer tape it to the boiler whilst its sat on the floor. Ooh, and don't forget the flue - lets just swipe the vent from the dryer, bit of gaffer tape and route it through the window......... be sensible........................0
