    Mortgage-free Glee!
I always only now use half a tablet - (tip picked up here yonks ago (wish I knew the OP to thank!!!) - and use any basic own brand type. Like the idea of vinegar in the rinseaid compartment, so may try that. Never thought about making an own version of "gunk" but will watch with interest to see if anyone else does. Wouldn't want to be without my dishwasher, it was the first thing I bought when I returned to work full-time, rather more years ago that I now care to remember!
    Resolution:
    Think twice before spending anything!

    Thanks for all the replies,
Will try Asda's own. Anyone tries Aldi tablets?
Is it the distilled white vinegar?

I use Tesco cheapies and find them fine, I don't need salt as I live in a very soft water area. I use the cheapest rinse aid I can find.

Someone once described getting a dishwasher to me as 'you know when you had kids they changed your life?, I said yes, she said well a dishwasher does the same in reverse'

I use Tesco Value tablets as Which? recommended them, and they're good enough for me. I still use DW salt, but put white vinegar in the rinse aid dispenser. We have terribly hard water and glasses do go cloudy, and it won't wash anything eggy, but fairly happy otherwise.

Not sure if this is helpful but I bought a box of 15 top of the range Finish Tablets all singing/all dancing/powerball/all-in-one etc etc £1.50 (half price from £3) on offer in Iceland today.

I usually buy the cheaper powder but I do like the powerball tablets if I can afford them. May get another box too.:D
