Hi
Can anyone help with this please . . .
I have a BT phoneline installed. However I only use it for my internet access. I keep the internet on 24 hours a day.
I now would like to add an actual phone on this line so I also use the phoneline for my home phone.
How does this work? Do I need to add a "double socket" to my phone line jack so I can plug in the lead for my internet access plus the lead for my phone?
And what happens if someone phoned me while the internet is on? Does the internet access get interrupted? And similarly if I dial out, will my internet access be interruped?
Any advice on what I need to do and type of sockets etc I need to add would be hugely appreciated.
Many thanks
regards

someone technical will be along soon but the phone and the internet work
side by side so no, nothing will be interrupted. Do yu have a phone socket elsewhere in the house, just buy a phone and plug it in there. job done.
or this, as you say.

i am quite happy to be corrected if i am wrong.

hiii - thanks for your reply. I live in a flat and only have one phone socket so guess I will need to purchase a "double" socket and plug this in my phone jack. And yes I know my phone number.
Good to hear that internet and phone work side by side these days and there won't be any interruptions to my internet access.
But yes if anyone else has any additional technical info that would be welcomed.

No, you plug the ADSL filter into the telephone wall socket and then plug the phone into the phone socket therein (i.e. the left side in either of the pictures below), leaving your internet router/modem plugged into the other (right) side.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Just for the record, if you see a word in a different colour in a text its usually a link.
Most posters will say 'you will find it 'here', just click on it. Dont click on mine, there's nothing there:rotfl:make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
