Asus Netbook

I've been thinking of buying one of these as a replacement for my Dell Inspiron 1300 with a VERY damaged screen. All I really do is surf the web and online chat , perhaps a bit of word and excel. Am I correct in thinking that a netbook will be a viable option for me - I hear they are very portable and have excellent battery life. Does anyone out there use one regularly? Can anyone suggest a good place to buy?

Before you splash out and buy a netbook, make sure you see one working, especially noting the size of characters on the screen, and how much a browser shows vertically. Also try using the keyboard, which is usually smaller with keys closer together than you may be used to.

Personally I find that the screen characters are far too small, and not enough 'screen real estate' is available...
Of course, "your kilometerage may vary"...

I used an Asus EEE701 for a year but whilst it was a lovely machine, the keyboard could have been larger. Just got a Samsung NC10 which a 10 inch screen and an almost full size keyboard. Superb little machine in my opinion!
