windows and doors 3% credit card charge

Hi, I was wondering if I could get a little bit of advice.
Just had safestyle uk come round to fit 8 windows and 3 doors. When it came to making payment I was then told there is a 3% charge for using a credit card, however this is the first time it was mentioned to us.
When the original sales rep came round, he discussed the finance options, and when we said we would be paying on credit card nothing was mentioned about the 3% charge then.
The office to make payment was shut, so there going to call tomorrow. Im guessing i'll have no option but to pay the extra 3% on top.
Love the windows and doors, but this has put a bit of a downer on things

What paperwork do you have?
Does that mention any card processing fee?
If you have no mention anywhere of it, and you stated previously that you were to pay by card then I would expect them to honour the cost.
I would say it is up to them to state any additional charges to you when agreeing terms & costs, especially as you clearly stated that was how you were going to pay.
If it is stated in any T's & C's you've been given though, I think you would have a hard job getting around it.0 -
Thanks for your reply.
On the contract we signed when the rep came round it says
Cash : yes
Finance: no
Type of loan: n/a
The rep said he had to say yes to cash as that is the only option on the form apart from taking out the finance from them. He was aware we would be paying credit card as he said the fitter would phone the office to put the transaction through.
The contract also sates"I agree I will pay the balance by cash or cheque immediately the installation has been completed or delivered"
No where on the contract or in the terms and conditions does it state a 3% handling fee will apply if paying by credit card.
Im guessing when they phone tomorrow for payment and if they dont accept my argument im left with no option other then to pay and chase the 3% back0 -

If you're trying to use a cc for Section 75 protection [well worth doing], than as long as you pay SOME of the amount on the cc you're covered for the full amount with section 75.
So pay £100 with the cc, and the rest some other way.
In addition most ccc's only charge the merchant a max of iirc 1.5%, and big boys get a better discount.
if it's not for section 75 then if it wasn't clear there as a charge then you're in a prety strong position [esp since the windows are already installed] Offer to pay the amount excluding the 3% surcharge NOW, or tell them they'll have to wait [several weeks/months] until you secure other means of funding.
Trust me, they'll be happy to take the cc payment!!0
