Powerpoint problem

I`ve installed Powerpoint 2002 (which was part of a microsoft office xp for students version 2002) onto my vista. However, powerpoint doesn`t open via the powerpoint shortcut in the program menu nor do powerpoint files (.ppt) open. If I run powerpoint (powerpnt.exe) powerpoint does open up and through file=>open I can open .ppt files.
Does anyone know how I can get powerpoint to work normally simply by pressing the powerpoint button or by simply clicking the file I want to open?
Thank you! I`ve been searching for ways on google and the microsoft site but can`t find a way!

If you're familiar with Windows Explorer (or even My Computer!):
1) Find where the executable file POWERPNT.EXE is located (possibly via Search). It will be in something like C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 10\POWERPNT.EXE. (The '10' may be a lower number, like '9'!) Note where it was.
2) Find where your presentation is, and right-click on it. From the menu, select 'Open with'. If you are offered "Microsoft Powerpoint" in the list of programs, then select this. If there's a tick box saying something like "Always open files of this type using this program", tick it. If you aren't offered Powerpoint, browse to the location you wrote down for point 1) and select that.
What you need to do will be something like this, but maybe not exactly (I have Office 2003, you see...)0 -
I did try that but that file didn`t exist on my computer

I still have no clue where powerpnt.exe is kept so uninstalled the powerpoint, reinstalled it - still same problem occurs.
So uninstalled powerpoint again and installed everything by custom installation - still powerpoint won`t work - so uninstalled everything
I`m reinstalling powerpoint and will see if any changes I make on powerpoint are registered on other computers...0 -
This time around - I found powerpnt.exe! Thank you all for you help - it was placed in program files (*86) which is the folder for 32 bit files (whatever that means...)
Strange that ealier the pptico.exe was the only one available...
Thank you John Gray!0 -
Glad you fixed it - I didn't realise that you (apparently) had 64-bit Vista!0
