Having a bit of a problem with Amber Arch, done all the jobs for them as normal this month, tried to log into the online system to submitted the invoice and cant log in, requested the password incase its wrong and all I get back is a blank email !, have emailed them every day for the last 2 weeks and no reply !. Just wondering if I should just do a manual invoice and fax it to them, but if they don't reply I am stuck. I am due about £50 and the reports were all filed on time and purchases returned.

    You could telephone them.

This thread might be 45 pages long but the previous 10 Mystery shopping threads are all over 200 pages long. If "these companies" didn't pay do you think the threads would be so busy?!!!!!

Then there shouldn't be a problem answering the question. Just give me an average wage for a standard job. That's not too much to ask is it?

Without meaning to sound rude, others have already told you that we cannot disclose fees and also how is anyone supposed to be able to give you an average wage???

Some people prefer to do jobs for the perks of free meals etc, others like to do "no spend" jobs where all they get is the fee - there is no such thing as an average wage as everybody is different depending on the jobs and companies they work for so it wouldn't help you

If you take the time to register with a couple of companies (as has been suggested) you will be able to see the fees and make your own mind up

Due to confidentiality issues we are not able to discuss fees. Also there is no such thing as a standard mystery shopping job so it just isn't possible to put a figure on it. Some jobs do not pay any fees, some pay over £100.

It is an impossible question to answer.

Firstly everyone has been saying when you sign up to the agencies you agree not to disclose fees.

Secondly we all work differently. Some people may well do it full time but I suspect for most of us it is slotted in amongst the normal jobs as a nice little extra or benefit if its something you would already buy. For instance, you may not get a fee for a petrol job but you do get a reimbursement so if you use petrol then basically you get it free for doing a bit of observation and filling in a fairly straightforward report. Another job may involve a visit to the bank where you will receive a fee that is a little above the minimum wage if it all goes smoothly. Last example I will give is I have had holidays where all expenses have been paid so I didn't earn a wage but have had some very nice breaks!

There was a thread a while back on this site that were monthly shopping challenges...lasted about 3 months until posters realised it wasn't such a good idea and possibly breaching their contracts. You might want to search for it and you can see what some people earnt each month.

Finally...it is too much to ask. Everyone has been advising you in the best, polite and helpful way they can.

Edit: Sometimes you really have to earn your money....its not always smooth running and some assignments involve real dedication - there's only so many burgers and phone stores you can take before you go loopy! We should get compensation for Mad Cow Disease and Mobile Phone waves always passing through the brain.Hey maybe thats what's caused us to get hooked!

There is no such thing as a standard job. The jobs vary a lot both in terms of the work required and the fee paid.

It's not a salaried job, where people are paid £x per hour. As has been stated the work and fees vary a lot between clients, from jobs that have no fee and reimbursement for products only, to complex jobs that pay hundereds of pounds.

Even the same type of job can have different types of fee for the same type of client. For example one company will pay £x for a mobile phone store yet another company will pay double that.

There are also other benefits to factor in depending on the company. Some pay an all-in flat fee, some pay a fee and then an allowance for mileage and parking, some pay for everything you have to buy, some pay a contribution towards your purchases, some allow you to keep the goods bought, others ask that the item is posted back or returned to store and so on.

With so many variables, it's difficult to work out what an average would be.

People have their own personal levels they will work towards. For example I'll not go out of my way to do low paying jobs, but if I happen to be in a place anyway I'll pick them up.
Here I go again on my own....

ok guys I think I can answer this one.

Just done a quick calculation on my jobs this year so far and, after expenses, I have an average job rate of...........wait for it........£2.90 per job!
I've also had a look at the cumulative hours I've worked (need this for working tax credit) and the hourly rate is.......... wait for it.......... drum roll........£1.14 per hour:j:T

Couldn't think of anything witty to say so just keeping the space until I can :(
