Credit Card Cheques

Hi, I was surprised to find that a supply of cheques had been sent to me by Barclaycard. I am sure I read that these had been outlawed. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Also on a similar line I recently had a "late payment" fine imposed on me by the same loving and caring people. I had read that payments from building societies and banks are now supposed to be "same day", which to me means at the worst the money should be there the next day. Not the 3 days later that Nationwide took.

Same day payments are not yet available between all the banks and building societies.0 -
I recently got some from Sainsburys Bank so no.
In the case of Barclaycard just phone them up and tell them explicitly you don't want them for security reasons. Then they should stop sending them to you. I did this years ago and have never been sent any.
One of my credit card companies I think MBNA initially said they couldn't do this but they have now stopped sending them to me.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Nope, the credit card company are (at the moment) entitled to send you cheques unless you specifically opt out, however the government are looking into this issue and are likely to outlaw/change this in the near future.
Nope again, not all bank accounts are capable of FP's and most of those that are have restrictions placed on them. Most (a couple of exceptions)credit card company accounts are unable to accept FP's. Generally, you should follow the advice on the statement by sending payment up to 5 working days prior to the due date. Again there are exceptions to this, but these methods are for the very disciplined only.0 -
Barclaycard sent me a couple last month. I took great delight in feeding them to Nancy (my shredder). Total, complete and utter con.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

I've been sent Credit Card Cheques by both Lloyds TSB and MBNA, I never ever use them as they are very expensive (£3 minimum charge for using one) and why bother, if I need to write a cheque, which is very rare these days I use my current account cheques - completely free. It's just another way of creaming more money from you, like LeeSouthEast says, mine go in the shredder, or preferably burnt.0
