I went to all the "usual suspects" i.e. PC World, Dixons, John Lewis and may more just to see what various models looked like and to have a play with them. This was easy for me, it does depend where you live.

I then went onto Amazon's website and bought.

It is not easy to decide on a model, but once you know what you want, keep an eye on the prices and look out for special one-day sales, warehouse box damage bargains etc. I know people who have done well buying from eBay, but it is a bit risky.

John Lewis are fine for pc's, printers etc, theyve usually got stock of HP's in
better going to them than any of the Dixons lot

you can also buy direct from HP, same as Dell

I wouldn't buy a pre-built one, I'd buy the parts and build it myself, much more fun, and possibly cheaper depending on what spec you want.
