Lenders' procedures vary, but from feedback here, Barclaycard always reports late payments to the credit reference agencies, even when staff have promised otherwise. There's no need to delay your cc application though.
By next January, your B'card account should look something like this on credit files:
00010000000
showing that you paid late 3-4 months ago, but have maintained your account perfectly ever since.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
Thank you
I did write to Barclaycard and they said that this will be reported to the cra's .
But do you think that this late payment will have a effect on me getting another 0% card..
Thanks0 -
I have recently had a late payment on my Barclaycard this is the only blip on my CRA files ideally I wanted to apply for a new card in Jan as my 0% finishes but because of this how long should I leave it before applying for a new card..
Many thanks..

Did you get charged a late payment fee?
I was recently charged one on my credit card, it was the first time I had ever been late. I phoned them up and the said they could waive the fee. Woo hoo, thats a saving! But that a note would go on my records to say that no more late payment fees would be waived. When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0 -
Before I went on hols this year I reduced my payment online to what I thought was the minimum. Only it wasn't ... their system would have let me change the Direct debit to any value and not warn that it might be too low. So while I was away, this DD payment was treated as a late payment as it was £5 below my min payment. They phoned my home and left embarrassing messages that my in-laws heard and my daughter had the pleasure of speaking to them. She told them when I'd be back but the calls came everyday.
By the time I was home, I answered the phone and told the overseas operator that I had paid online (which I had) to make up the balance plus £50 more. She said the payment wasn't showing on my account (it was the bank holiday weekend) but she'd waive the payment. This event happened on all 3 days of the bank holiday and each time the late payment fee was waived.
So on my next statement I had £36 of fees refunded (3 X £12) and the rate was restored to the promotional rate.
I did get an apology for disclosing the fact that everyone in the family knew I had a Barclaycard too.
But yes, my experian record shows a late payment - that barclaycard's system let me set without warning me that it was below the payment expected on my account! Their system has recently changed - this was just before the new system went online.
So be warned; they are so fast and dare I say their systems are a little stupid when it comes to chasing what was for me, a first ever 'offence', for a payment that was just a little under the minimum, for a balance that is actually quite low and using just a small part of my credit limit.0 -
MESSAGE BELOW IS REFERRING TO A MESSAGE SOMEONE ADDED THAT HAS SINCE BEEN DELETED
In what way have I lied? Your comments are libellous and against the rules of this forum.
Each time I made it clear that I had paid the minium payment online and that it wasn't showing because the online system hadn't been updated over the weekend.
I did not ask for the waiver to be applied repeatedly; it was something the operator did as soon as I explained that I had been called already about this, had made a payment online. I had no idea that the payment would go onto my account 3 times.
Please explain to me how I have lied and either amend your statement and apologise to me publicly or via a private message. Your comments are libellous and against the rules of this forum. I have reported your post as abuse as I cannot understand why you are accusing me of telling lies. If I have writtten anything in a confusing way then I apologise; at all times I was polite and honest with Barclaycard. Is it my fault that their systems are not real time? Is it my fault that the customer advisor refunded the fee as it wasn't showing on my account? I had no idea that it would show 3 times until I had the statement.0 -

Your statement clearly shows what the minimum monthly payment is yet you changed your payment online to below what was due. Why ? You made an assumption about the minimum requirement without checking. That's your fault, not Barclaycard's and therefore they're fully entitled to report it to the CRA's.
OK, the phonecalls may have been OTT, but you got your charges refunded and your promotional rate re-instated so all's well that ends well !0 -

I agree that it is my responsibility to pay the mimimum. I truthfully thought I had done this by setting the direct debit to £25 rather than the £150 a month I usually paid (as I was going on hols). The actual min payment was £30.
I thought the online system would advise me if it was too low. I don't get papaer statements anymore and had glanced at the online transactions as I don't use the card for anything other than the balance transfer I have.
I might have noticed the box that said minimum payment but I did all of this in a hurry and perhaps didn't think - I have an other card with a larger balance (at 0%) where the min payment is £25 a month.
The point I was trying to make was that it is easy to make a simple mistake with Barclaycard and despite having a blemish free record so far, a simple mistake lead to aggressive chasing from this company when they had been told every single day that I was on holiday. I was in Portugal and paid the outstanding balance on the day I returned home. This happened to be the Saturday of the August bank holiday.0 -
In the context of a brief 5 or 6 month payment history, this certainly wouldn't have done you any favours.Do you think that this late payment will have an effect on me getting another 0% card?
That said, if you have a single late payment in 12 months with B'card, together with an otherwise flawless credit report, then there's nothing to worry about.
It's your payment history with all your creditors over the last 6 years that counts, with particular emphasis on the most recent 12 months
