Pipex Homecall Package

Hello recently i became aware that my phonebill with Pipex had begun to creep up.I checked a particular bill and purely by accident found that I was being charged for all my evening local calls. However I distinctly remember initiating a free evening and weekends call package. Some of my pm calls would have been hour long, then I would ring off and ring back to take advantage of the free hour long pm calls that I thought I was recieving.Me and the now missus kept in touch by this method for about 3 years before we married this year,so theres a fair few quid at stake. To put it mildly im furious.Ive talked to them and they deny any mistake or wrong doing their end.Surprise surprise!Though I cant recall the specifics of conversations that I had to set this deal up with Pipex(its been 3 odd years apter all)but I know absolutley that I would not have kept with them if I had not been offered and given an evening and weekend call package. So its their word against mine.i know its a long shot, but any ideas anyone?

Many thanks Jonathan

Pipex (latterly Tiscali and now Talk Talk) clearly don't want your business.

There are plenty of other 'free' evening and weekend calls packages out there - even BT does one.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Tiscali and Talk Talk are both well known for their poor customer service.

I wouldn't bother arguing with them on the phone as one person doesn't know what the other said. And they will deny it anyway.

I wouldn't bother writing complaint letters as they will acknowledge the letters just before you are allowed to complaint to their chosen regulator. And they will only acknowledge them only if you have sent them by recorded delivery otherwise they simply didn't receive them.

I wouldn't bother fighting with them over direct debits as if they agree with you, 6 months later they will take the money out of your account and then threaten you with debit collectors when you claim it back via the direct debit guarantee. You can't take them to their chosen regulator because you have to start a new complaints process so you have to be prepared to take them to court......

So in short follow Heinz advice and get a new phone company..........
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

    Hi Jonathan

    Welcome to MSE.

The only thing I can come up with is whether they started charging you a different tariff when you changed over to the free evening and weekend calls, or whether this was a "free" upgrade. Apart from that, I agree with the others, it would be a tough one to win.

Given their position, they might offer a token gesture if you "threatened" to leave.

    Good luck
