Hi, I have an 18 month old Ford Focus. The remote key function has just stopped working. I've changed the battery, but still no luck.

I have contacted the local dealership and they have quoted me to reprogramme the remote is £40.00.

Is there anything I can do to resolve this myself first.
They seem pretty certain it needs reprogramming, but is there anything else it could be?

I'm a bit reluctant to spend £40 I can ill afford for a reprogramme which takes under 30 mins - its a licence to print money.

Thanks.

It is under warranty and they want you to pay!

If they think it needs reprogramming without even seeing it, suggests to me that this could be a common problem?

I'd try another dealer and/or call Ford Customer Care directly. This is not very good customer service in my mind!

Flipping cheek, don't stand for it! Whereabouts are you? Roughly..

  • There are instructions in the owners manual for reprogramming the remote for my older (2001) Focus. don't know if this is the case for newer models?

Phone this guy for advice - tell him that someone on this site recommended you call him! David is a nice guy and very helpful - I work near him (not for him!) so I am not advertising - in case anyone shouts SPAM! :D

Thank you all so much for your suggestions. Esp A Nice Englishman - found some instructions in the manual which worked.

I love this site and all the helpful people who contribute. :smileyhea

I'll contact Ford HO on Monday and tell them what I think of their rip off dealership E-H, who could have suggested the method in the manual before booking a £40 appointment.

Also my car is due for a service and I won't be going to E-H for it. They have just lost all the services and repairs they would have had for the lifetime of my car.
  • Glad to be of service Swattie, do let us know what Ford HO say.
