Alternative to White Wine Vinegar??

I've never heard of vinegar being sprinkled on roasted new potatoes. Perhaps any old malt vinegar would work. Or balsamic if you have some0

our roast potato thread has loads of methods on making them.
When i make them, once i have par boiled them, i put them back in the pot on the heat to dry out the waterl. Pour over hot oil ( it usually sizzles, love that noise - i use goose fat or dripping or sunflower oil is also pretty good - in the oven until it smokes), then i sprinkle rock salt, black pepper, mixed herds, lemon juice and zest and chuck in some whole garlic cloves
NOM NOM NOM!
What did you do in the end? Ill merge this with the roastie thread later. Alternatives to white wine vinegar may also give some ideas.

not sure I would want vinegar on my roasties - sea salt, freshly ground black pepper or white pepper, maybe some fresh herbs (depends what I am serving them with). but I have never thought of putting vinegar on them!0

Hi, sorry, I did post this on the 30min meals thread but no reply, and am going to have to start cooking soon, so thought would try on the main board (sorry!)
I'm planning on making the piri pii chicken tonight, and I don't have any white wine vinegar. I have red wine, cider and sherry-which would be best? (I also have balsamic and malt, but don't think they would be right) Other ingredients are onion, worcestershire sauce, chilli, paprika and lemon juice.
THANKS!0 -
Depends on your personal taste.
Either of the 'white' vinegars - cider or sherry should be fine. For myself I am an optimist - there does not seem to be much use being anything else.

I'd go with cider0
