Broadband For A Laptop

can someone tell me (i'm not techie at all:rotfl:!!!) is it possible to get broadband for a laptop without having it installed in your home, like something you can use to connect your laptop aywhere that you pay a monthly charge for?
dd wants a laptop for xmas, with internet:rolleyes:, but as we rent don't really want to have the expense of having it installed at home.
any help much appreciated!!!

the only thing to be aware of with mobile broband is this . coverage .and useage . things like iplayer suck daea ta and the mobile modem is a cutdown phone so who has coverage in the area of use
