I had my RAC breakdown renewal yesterday - on the Roadside, Recovery, At Home package my renewal cost is £170.50!!! I looked on the website and online for new customers this is currently £145.50 or £105.75 after online discount - what happened to rewarding continued custom!!!!! I've looked at the AA website and for the same it would cost me £114.75 plus quidco are doing £50 cashback! Thanks RAC but no thanks!!

I took out car rescue with Asda online last year which was contracted to RAC cost me £74 , far cheaper than RAC direct which was something like £108 for the whole deal. Policy due for renewal next month and I had a renewal notice direct from RAC for £78 so I am very pleased compared to the RAC online prices this year have gone up. I noticed on the Quidco Cash Back site that the RAC cashback was only payable on new policies not renewals. .SallyD0

I got that and phoned them to tell them I wouldn't be renewing. I think they dropped it down to £117?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Never had any problems with the RAC (Yet Anyway)
It is usally far cheaper to take the cover in with your Insurance.
I pay 57.00 per month for my Volvo, That includes the 1 million cover? and the RAC FULL cover for 12 months.
Not bad really.Thomson 757 Man0 -

Oh no NOT GREEN FLAG!!
Just rubbish compared to the RAC, They seemed to send a 'Contractor' 90% of the time and they then decide to charge you extra for anything they feel like charging you.Thomson 757 Man0 -

Indeed they do send a contractor, but very quickly, no charges are made, my Daughter has used them for a while now.
Care to explain which charges you believe they make??0 -
Green Flag are very quick off the mark, As oppose to RAC who seem to take well over an hour or more.
But the RAC ring you constantly and update you as to when the recovery operator will arrive.
I was always told years ago when I was a GF member that if they looked under the bonnet and had a lookaround then I would be charged 72.00 + any other 'Hands on' jobs the contractor undertakes.
All the GF would do is recover you home and anything extra would deem a charge.Thomson 757 Man0 -
If you are prepared to pay and claim then get Autoaid at £37.
Covers all vehicles driven by you and spouse for one fee.
Roadside, recovery, at home & on ward travel.
Great price, but you do have to pay up front.
Many good anecdotal reports on this site and payments are quick, but you do need a credit card or money to pay in the interim.0 -
I've found a site that offers Europ Assistance cover, UK and Europe, plus at home, etc., for £59. Has anyone used Europ Assistance, and do they seem ok? I ask because I've just had my RAC renewal also, and roadside + recovery comes to well over £100. I've been with them for many years, but I'm afraid that they are pricing themselves out of the market.
It used to be that the RAC would recover your car to your home, or onward destination, with no quibble, but looking at the new T&C's it would appear that they have fallen into line with the AA, in that they only undertake to tow you to the nearest garage, which is hopelessly inadequate and removes what to me was their greatest selling point, ie the recovery of car, luggage, family, etc., to a place convenient to you, rather than leaving you at the mercy of a possibly remote garage.0 -
Yeah true, And you always seem to breakdown on a miserable wet bank holiday sunday or at 'Silly' xmas time!!
When nobody is available.
(That's another story Lol):rolleyes:Thomson 757 Man0
