If the garage is currently locked and there is a maker's name and any identifying marks on the lock for the garage, then a good locksmith may be able to identify the right key for you. If there's just a maker's name but no ID, then they may be able to sell a replacement lock. But I have no idea how you'd change it.

Same for the patio doors - manufacturer's name and ID, except there you also have the option of contacting the people who fitted the doors to see if they sell replacement locks.

If the garage is currently unlocked then the easiest and most secure way to sort it out might be a padlock and hasp or two.

it may seem a bit obvious, but can you not ask previous house owners if they have the key by mistake or something?

    thanks
previous owners dont know about the key
garage door is open but is up and over one
patio door locks but barely, probably looking at having to replace both locks seems expensive deal
any option short of that welcome

You could always fit a staple & hasp to the garage and lock it with a padlock.

I imagine a few calls to a garage door fitting company (Yellow Pages?) would be able get you a new lock & key.

Had the same problem with my garage door when I came here. There was a number on the front of the door lock in very small writing and there was the make of the door on the actual door.

Mine was also an up and over. New key was £6.75 which seemed a bit steep but there you go.

Ended up with Carsdale on 01280 703022
