Slugs in the kitchen

Okies, so each day we walk into the kitchen to find some more slugs on the floor,on the cupboard doors etc. Not normally an issue, as we simply pick them up and throw them into the garden.

Tonight i went into the kitchen to find 3x baby slugs & 1x big slug making there ways across the floor to the dogs bowl area.

Again, there out back into the garden now.

We cant think how they are getting in, we have a plastic water pipe coming through the floor under the sink, then an old dryer duct / vent that i blocked up sometime ago. When i fitted the kitchen, we ensured that all holes were filled in well before fitting the cupboards against the walls.

They appear to be coming from all sorts of places, so thinking of taking the plinths off again, and putting lots of salt down for now. Might even take the dyson out for a little spin to see if i can pick some of them up.

Is there anyway to find where they are coming from easy.?

How can i identify & destroy the nests.

I suspect they might have entered the house on the dog, and took a ncie little visit behind the dishwasher etc to lay there nice eggs.

We have a few airbricks outside, so a possible entry point into the cavity, but apart from that were stumped as i dont recall any holes. I might need to drag the washer, dishwasher all out and put some pellets & salt down.

Oh the joys...

  • Pellets and salt will be very messy. If you can put a bowl of beer down somewhere where the dog won't drink it (maybe pull out appliances and put behind them) then the slugs will crawl in and die happy

Other than that it's just a matter of trying to find where the trail comes from or seeing one near it's entry point by chance and blocking it off.

They are likely to be coming in on the dog, we had loads of them because they got caught on the cats toes!

Last night, we pulled the dishwasher, washer, plinths out and had a look.

We found 5 baby slugs, and 2 large slugs. We removed them, cleaned the area up and layed a whole tub of salt down under the plinths.

Behind the dishwasher & partially under the sink, there is no skirting board. We suspect them to be entering here, as we live in a timber-framed house. Which the walls was covered in slug slime. Also an area around the duct for the water pipe. Maybe this is where the babies are layed.

Again, the area is covered in salt, and now its all behind the dishwasher / plinths so we will monitor it and see how it goes.

Also, we plan to get hold of some slug pellets and push them through the air vent grills on the outside. That should see them off..

As to blocking the holes up, i dont think its possible easily without pulling the kitchen out again.
