You could get her a shuffle. It's the low end of the Ipod range and has less bells and whistles, but it's still an Ipod!

I would also suggest (although check the current price) that you purchase the Apple service plan. Since ipods are essentially disc storage devices that get carried around, it is not unusual for them to require repair. Don't get me wrong, I'm an Ipod fan (we have 4) but the nature of the beast is that sooner or later it will require repair. However, you have to weigh the benefits with the cost (I wouldn't, for example, get one for the shuffle).0
