Ask for a landline contact number before posting the item. If you then send me the number via private message, I'll let you know if it adds up or not.

Wise to be cautious, and I would do exactly the same with a UK buyer.

Thank you, that is a very kind offer. However, I decided to go for it and just posted the item. The buyer had good feedback and it was not a high value item. I will get back to you if things go wrong!

The problem with European users registering accounts on the UK site is that it is not classed as an international transaction even though the item is sent abroad, therefore putting your eligibility for Top Rated Seller at risk.

I do not understand how it can effect eligibility but then I have not read up about this new initiative. Please can you explain? Many thanks.

Becoming a Top Rated Seller on the UK site means that you have to stay under a certain number or 1 or 2 rated Stars for P&P, dispatch time etc. If you get too many, then you are not eligible.

The Top Rated Seller scheme is only supposed to take into account domestic transactions between UK sellers and Uk buyers. If you send an item abraid and they mark you down, then it should not count against your quota of allowed 1s and 2s.

However, if the buyer is based in Poland, but registers their account on ebay UK, and asks for the item to be sent to Poland, then that is classed as a domestic transaction - both the buyer and seller are registered on ebay UK.

It appears to be a glitch though... for a change!

Thanks for that info. I have seen a couple of these Top Rated Seller badges today and they seem to be going to powersellers. The likes of me, with 4.9 DSRs will never be "honoured".

Shouldn't be a problem then - although (not to worry you!) - I have heard stories of Polish buyers being dreadfully awkward over low value items. But again, things from the 'West' are still seen as desirable here, thus you might find trustworthy buyers wanting them. They can also be quite easily sold at a profit over here.

What I'd suggest in future is that if you get any Polish buyers, request their PESEL and a landline (not a mobile!) number before posting the item. Both of these can be verified (PESEL is just our National Insurance number - the wikipedia article explains how to check to see if it's valid) and someone with a landline will tend to be more genuine.

Any problems, just PM me - I'll happily help you deal with them. I'm certainly not a fan of countrymen giving this place a bad reputation :)
    From Poland...with love.

    They are (they're)
    sitting on the floor.
    Their
books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.

Had this once on Play.com - address was Poland, but put UK in the country field (presumably to get the cheaper postage).

Against my better judgement I posted and then got a message saying it was damaged in the post, terrible, blah, blah, blah. Felt like fishing for a refund, which I declined and got duely negged.

So purely a personal decision, but I wouldn't be doing that again.

Many thanks for your offer and advice.

I have sold many items to buyers in Poland (and other countries in Europe), expecially text books, and have had absolutely no problems. UK buyers are much more troublesome! There is "bad" everywhere, but mostly "good".

I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that I have more confidence in posting to Poland than to Italy!
