When can I sell my Tax free car without penalty

Hi all,
As per thread title please, when is the earliest I can sell my BFG brought tax free car in the UK without giving myself a penatly from the tax man/customs etc
I have been led to believe that it is 12 months after it was first registered in BFG, is this correct or is this a BFG rule?
I am not bothered about taking a 5 year BFG ban as I will not be going back there any more, time is short before I leave and I would rather get rid of the car and not have its debt, although there is not a lot on it really only about 9k and the car is worth 18k.
My plan is to sell the car for it's market value, get another cheaper car to the value of 5k max, pay off the remaining loan and invest the rest in an ISA, I just don't want to have to wait until Jan 2010 to sell it

hi there yes its 12 months my hubby sold his exactly 12 months after we bought it and we got no penalty :j0

you have to wait 12 months to the day the car was BFG'd, it not only a ban that you could end up if you sell it earlier you would also have to pay taxes on the car.0

Its actually 12 months and 1 day before you can deregister your BFG car.
Check out the BFG posters which (should) be displayed in prominant places.
Rachel is correct with the taxes, BFC&I in conjunction with JPB, would be chasing your back!!
Or you could always sell it and not forward any of the details on until after a year (but your running a risk there with tickets etc)

Remember it does take a bit of time to de-register it from being a BFG'd car.
You can also make a bit of money selling the continental headlights if you are sharp and don't need them any more.0
