Email transfer

Hi

I used Outlook under XP on my old laptop. My new laptop has Windows Mail under vista. I've set up my all my email accounts and they're running fine but I'm struggling to copy or export my email archives across. I've created .pst files but I can't get Windows Mail to import. Any help would be appreciated.

So it looks like I need to temporarily install outlook on the new laptop to enable the MAPI driver.

Yes on the new laptop you have to install Outlook to allow Windows Mail to import the messages from a PST file.

If you still have the old laptop, you may be able to transfer the messages from Outlook into Outlook Express. Then transfer the whole "Outlook Express" folder (the one in your profile under identities) to the new laptop. You should then be able to import into Windows Mail - select import from OE6, then click to import from an OE6 store directory, and browse for the folder.

Worked a treat thanks. On the old laptop, I imported all the mail into express from outlook. Created .dbx structure in a shared folder through express maintenance then imported into new laptop Windows Mail over wifi network.

Nice one, glad it worked out. Saves having to risk messing up the new laptop with installing/uninstalling Outlook
