Worse off!

I've just got a promotion I've worked really hard for and waited for for a long time.
Having worked out my entitlement to WTC and CTC, my income is going to drop by £200 a month. What incentive is there to better yourself? I honestly feel like crying.
I think it's worse to know that this won't take effect until the new tax year, as its now going to loom over me for the next 6 months.
Things wouldn't have been so bad but as this was an internal promotion, I was counting on being paid the salary that was mentioned at the interview (the same to all candidates), but the company had decided to pay me £3,400 less than was mentioned.
I can't not take the promotion, as I will then risk redundancy.
It's hard enough to keep going every day without knowing that in 6 months, things are going to be so much worse! Thanks for reading, I don't expect any replies, as there isn't anything to be done is there?

I cant see how they can offer you a salary increase and then rescind it.

The ,management haven't mentioned it. I work in an male orientated environment and its beeng quite difficult for their "culture" having a part timer woman......this promotion means I have to work full time, but I'm still a woman lol ! I did raise it with HR but they wouldn't discuss it.
I've now checked with the Tax Credit office and I am right......I will be £200 a month worse off.0 -

Dont just enquire ask them directly to pay you what they would have paid the other (male) applicants. You do not have to take what they offer. I've requested to put on a higher rate when starting a new job and I got it, I didnt ask HR they know nothing usually, I asked the senior manager. You have something on your side if you can prove it, in that you would be being paid less than the men. Which if you are brave enough you can mention even very innocently, which they will understand could mean you could take them to tribunial for sex discrimination for paying less to women than men for the same job.0 -
just ask - don't back anyone in the corner, but as other posters have said. really you could ask for them for even more as you may have already saved them the agency fee for using external candidateI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

DeeDee, you have to think long-term. Even if you are initially £200 per month worse off, over the next 2=3 years this will change and in five years time, you'll be streets ahead.0

You say that the job was advertised at the £3400 higher - they then have to explain why it is not being given to you on those terms I would think! Ring ACAS and ask advice from them - if the job had no salary mentioned, then that may be different, but if it stated the salary and they are offering you less, then that would seem unfair.0

Just re-read the post - it was mentioned at the interview what the salary was, so I can't see how they have dropped it with no explanation either!! Their refusal to discuss it seems dodgy to me. Definately ring ACAS.0

I doubt they would want to make you redundant for the sake of £3,400/annum. The cost of doing so would be more than they would gain and they'd then have to employ someone who they obviously decided wasn't the best person for the job.
You could send a copy of the offer letter to the senior manager with a brief covering letter saying how pleased you are to have been chosen as the best candidate given that the industry you work in is so male dominated, reminding them what figure was discussed at the interview with all the applicants and asking them to get HR to correct the obvious typo on the salary so that you can formally accept the position. That gives them the option to review it and save face by claiming it was an accidental oversight. It also makes it clear that you know all the rest were men and you think they're extracting the michael by thinking they can offer you less, without saying it in quite so many words.Eat food.
